Face Favorites: My Top 8 Concealers

Hey, guys!

Here is the second entry for the ‘series’ that I’m doing on my blog where I will be talking about my favorite face, eyes and lip products. If you haven’t seen the first one where I talked about my favorite foundations, click here.

Next on my list is concealer. Let me just remind you guys that I have a yellow undertone, I am an NC35 in MAC, and I have oily skin. Even with a primer and foundation underneath, sometimes my concealer still fades throughout the day, but that’s only when I’m doing hardcore sweaty jobs. Also, these will mostly be yellow toned concealers, unless mentioned otherwise. But anyway, I’ll get into more detail later.

An overview of my favorite concealers so far.

L-R: Lumi Touch, Double Wear, Select Cover Up, Full Cover, Creamy Concealer, Creamy Corrector, Touche Eclat, Setting Powder. (That is also my thigh. I really should get a wax, huh? Hahaha)

1. L’oreal Lumi Magique Highlighting Concealer in 3

This is L’oreal’s version of the Touche Eclat, but it’s cheaper, there’s slightly more coverage and it’s more brightening. It’s more pink toned so it really brightens the under eye area instead of corrects the color, but it does reflect the light really well so it still gets rid of the dark circles. I use this sometimes on other areas where I want to highlight, and in flash photography it doesn’t look horrible at all (considering you don’t put too much on of course). It’s really blendable and the consistency isn’t too thick or runny, and it’s one of the products that I’m sure won’t crease under my eye or fade away. Oh, and Maybelline has a version of this which is pretty much the same thing.

2. YSL Touche Eclat in 3

I only realized now that I don’t have a swatch for this, but it’s basically a peach version of the Lumi Touch and a liquid formula of the Corrector below. I will be honest, I had no idea how the hell to use this when I first got it and slightly regretted buying it since it was pretty expensive for a concealer that won’t work. After some time, I tried it again after I began using the Lumi Touch because I wanted to see if I changed my mind, and I did. I realized that I was looking at it wrong this whole time. It’s marketed as a highlighting pen and not an under eye concealer. If you expect this to have a lot of coverage, oh baby, you’re going to have a bad time. What I love about this is that it acts like a really light coverage concealer (does that even make sense?), corrects any purpleness (since peach counteracts purple and blue) and it reflects the light subtly, but it really does make a difference. Just put a heavy duty concealer over the top if you need more coverage. It doesn’t last as well as the Lumi Touch, but if you’re not using it for that long, it’s okay.

3. Bobbi Brown Creamy Corrector in Peach

Now, this is my heavy duty under-eye corrector. Sometimes, I can use this on its own and I’d be done. It’s very pigmented and creamy (no duh) and it blends really well. Keep in mind that it’s slightly thick and sliiightly sticky, but that might just be mine, I’m not sure. Oh, and because it’s thicker, it settles in fine lines if you don’t blend properly or you use too much. Other than that, I love it. It lasts really well and my eyebags disappear instantly whenever I use this, especially on really zombie days. What more could you want?

4. Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in 3 Medium

For the longest time, I did not use this product because I always found it to be a little too pink for me, but then I for some reason decided to try it out again and it disappeared into my skin somehow. It’s a thick liquid consistency that blends easily and lasts really well. It’s good for under the eyes because like I said, it’s a pink tone so it brightens under the eye. For concealing, it’s a pretty good coverage and it sets. Unfortunately, it does have SPF, so if you use this on any spots and you’ve taken photos will flash, it will flashback. Just don’t use too much and blend well. The doe-foot applicator puts too much product on by the way, so just put a bit on the back of your hand instead of directly from the applicator onto the area.

5. MAC Select Cover Up Concealer in NC30

I was really annoyed when I got this because it was too light for me so again, I avoided using it. When I watched tutorials for a Kim Kardashian inspired look, I thought I could use it as the highlighting concealer to lift my face (kind of). It’s really great under the eyes since it’s a very liquidy consistency, but it sets. It doesn’t crease. It blends well. The coverage isn’t as heavy, but it covers enough (like redness and faded acne scars). And also, you just need a small dot of this since it is a bit runny; just get more when you need it.

6. Makeup Forever Full Cover Concealer in 7

Okay, I hate to disappoint, but guys, this isn’t as full coverage as I was expecting. I bought it because loads of people recommended it, so I tried it, hoping my reaction would be “Holy shit, where did my zit go?!” but all I said was “Aw, damn.” (Okay, not really, but I was still slightly disappointed) But, as usual, I didn’t complain and I kept using it since aside from coverage-wise, it’s a great product. First of all, it’s waterproof and sweatproof. I went trekking and swimming with this on (because there were boys there and I wasn’t wearing foundation… just kidding about the boys… not really), and from 10AM-4PM, I was sweating my ass off, but when we went back to the camp site, it was still there. Second of all, it’s great for under the eyes since it’s not too liquidy but it’s not too thick either, so it doesn’t settle in fine lines. And last, you need the tiniest amount and it’ll be enough. You can build it up but I usually don’t. Sort of trying to embrace my flaws and all that. Highly recommend this, but if you’re looking for a real full cover concealer, try Vichy Dermablend, Keromask, or Estee Lauder Maximum Cover Foundation. :)

7. Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer in Honey

This is my most used concealer, as you can tell, because it’s such an amazing concealer. When I have a pesky zit, it’s gone in seconds when I dab this on. Undereye brightener not enough? Voila! Au revoir eye bags! It lasts really well, it’s very creamy and very pigmented, it’s not that hard to blend even though it’s slightly thick (the same as the corrector). If you put too much on or don’t blend well, it does crease under the eye as well.

Oh, and it comes with an amazing setting powder. It’s a light yellow toned powder, but on the skin, it’s translucent. The powder is very fine and it never looks cakey. I even put this all over if I need to set my foundation, and it does the trick. Good job, Bobbi Brown!

8. MAC Studio Fix Concealer in NC35

I’m depressed that I got this photo from Google because I lost mine when I went to a party. Backstory: I used it for the first time in months and decided it to bring this with me since I had a massive zit. When I touched up in the bathroom, I think I left it on top of the counter. I thought I put it in my bag, but I didn’t. I will be repurchasing soon though!

Anyway, about the actually product, it’s pretty much the same thing as the Bobbi Brown concealer (for me), only this concealer is slightly more waxy than creamy. It sits on your skin, but not in an unflattering way and doesn’t settle into your pores or anything. It’s also my industrial strength concealer, and I have used it for years but I never seemed to hit pan on it. It just wouldn’t die! Which is probably a good thing since you know it’ll last you forever. I definitely recommend that for hyper-pigmentation and spot concealing. Under the eyes too, but it’s slightly drying. Other than that, it’s fantastic!

And that’s pretty much it. I hope you like the stuff I mentioned since I have been using these for a long time now, and I trust these products a lot with my skin. I didn’t mention anything that I didn’t like or ones that broke me out or anything.

I do have loads of others that I want to try, but the ones that have good recommendations are products that aren’t available where I live. (The ones from the drugstore, I mean) If you have any you’d like to recommend, go ahead and comment below! I’d love to go and check them out because concealer is important! :)

Again, I hope you liked this, and if you did, go and check out my previous post where I talk about my favorite foundations, and stay tuned for the next one where I talk about my favorite bronzers!

 With love,
